Villagers
A Tribal Wars–style medieval village-conquest strategy game to host yourself and play with friends over LAN or VPN.
Villagers is a medieval strategy game in the style of Tribal Wars, made for playing with friends on your own server. Players build up villages, produce resources, train troops, scout, raid, trade, form tribes and conquer each other's villages, alongside barbarians and AI bots. Like the games that inspired it, it is asynchronous and time-based: the world keeps moving while you are offline.
It was built so a group of friends can run their own world over a LAN or VPN, without relying on public servers. It uses original code, names, art placeholders and balance.
Architecture
A Next.js frontend talks to a Go backend split into three binaries — the API, a worker that resolves timed events such as attacks and construction, and a one-shot seeder that creates the world and spawns bots — over PostgreSQL, all deployed with Docker Compose.
