DarkNet
A Hacknet-inspired hacker-OS adventure game that runs in the browser, with fully customisable missions.
DarkNet is a browser game inspired by Hacknet. You play a freelance operator working jobs from a hidden contract board on a stylish fictional desktop OS — investigating targets through a terminal, following leads across fake websites and email, and making choices that change the story.
It is designed to be enjoyable for two kinds of players at once. Non-technical players can follow the clues like a mystery, while technical players get a genuine Unix-like shell with pipes, globs, grep, find and loops to play with. Everything is a fictional simulation that runs locally in the browser, with no real network access, and missions are fully customisable.
The terminal is powered by xterm.js and just-bash. The project is open source and runs locally for free.
