BrowserPilot

A Chrome extension and backend for driving your own browser over WebSocket for development, debugging and testing, including an AI agent.

Testing and debugging web apps often needs a real, logged-in browser rather than a fresh headless one — and connecting tools or AI agents to that browser usually means awkward automation setups or handing over far more access than intended.

BrowserPilot is a Chrome extension and a small self-hosted backend that let one person control their own browser programmatically: manage tabs, read pages, interact with elements, take screenshots, collect console and network output, and record and replay workflows. An optional AI agent can work on the current page with full context.

It is deliberately single-owner and fail-closed. The extension only connects to a backend URL you enter, both the WebSocket and the REST API require a pairing token, and with no token configured nothing is accepted at all.

Key features

  • Manifest V3 extension with live connection status and per-tab control toggle
  • Backend with Zod-validated commands and a REST API
  • browserpilot CLI
  • Workflow recording and replay
  • Pairing-token authentication that rejects everything when unconfigured
